GFM October Newsletter
GFM October Newsletter
From August this year GFM joined with Bcfm in the Bristol area and Somer Valley which broadcasts in Norton Radstock. The joint project funded for one year is to build up promotions, business development, sales and joint programming via a specific post to carry out the work. The aim is to make all three stations more sustainable with marketing and sales. Pat Hart the Partnership Development Manager is splitting his time between the three stations and getting a feel for the area as well as producing some audio content to get our key messages across. What he has heard about GFM from local businesses and organisations has been generally positive - but the clear message is that GFM still has a low profile in the area both on and off air and we all need to do a lot more to promote the station and what it can offer. Pat would love to talk to any business, charity or event about some exciting marketing possibilities- he is available on 07771595076
GFM Out and about
One of the best ways to get noticed as a station is to be there when anything of note is going on in the community. We certainly did that over the past couple of months providing the commentary at the Wells Lions Moat Boat Race, (sadly no team this year- banned because they were so good) entertaining the people of Glastonbury with some busking and story telling during the Extravaganza weekend and belting out the music outside the Kings Head (with the support of Ross Kirk, Nick Parker, Shaun Rimmer, our very own ZZ Birmingham and the Book Of Jao) Thanks to all those who turned out, distributed leaflets and flyers, sang or performed or more importantly helped put up and take down the black gazebo- home of the GFM roadshow. Any ideas on future community events you think we should support - then please let us know- it’s the best coverage we can get.
On air changes!
Welcome to Higos our first station sponsor - a business which supports community ventures and there has been a real synergy with their aims and what we are trying to do at GFM. As we speak, Red Berry Recruitment are about to start sponsorship of the Monday Drive Thru and we look forward to working with them also. GFM offers cost effective radio advertising to small businesses and charities either through a standard run of adverts or through show sponsorship so if you know of any businesses that might be interested please put them in touch.
Soultrain is the first programme networked across BCFm, Somer Valley and GFM- if you haven’t heard it before you can catch it on Sunday nights between 7-9pm
We are hoping to build links with BBC Somerset with a view to some programme sharing in the future and maybe some training opportunities- an exciting development for us and a huge benefit for the BBC of course! More on this as it develops.
Programmes! Programmes!
Have you got any programme ideas that you’d like to get on air? Maybe something we haven’t done before, a speech or music genre programme not covered in the schedule. It could be a one off or a series of features. We need much more varied content as well as shows that can fill gaps and boost our output. The random play list is good but not enough and there are still lots of gaps in the schedule. There is a great opportunity over the next few weeks with studio one free on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the day to get some shows recorded. Get in touch if you have some ideas and lets see what we can do.
