'As I walked out.' Coming soon on GFM
There is a long history of folk singing in Somerset, which is what Cecil Sharp realised when he travelled through the Somerset hills and valleys gathering traditional folk songs from local people early 20th century.
It is an experience so unique to Somerset, of such local social and cultural interest that Amanda wants to share and celebrate this with as many people as possible.
Over three episodes she talks to Eddie Upton from Folk South West and Malcolm Taylor from The Vaughan William's Memorial Library at Cecil Sharp House about Sharp's relationship with Somerset, the importance of his work and how the songs continue to thrive in the 21st century.
